Patna: Bihar is set to usher in a digital revolution in agriculture as the state government moves to make farming more technology-driven. The Nitish government has approved the formation of a Digital Agriculture Directorate under the Agriculture Department, a move that will allow farmers to access government schemes and agricultural information in real time without leaving their homes.
The new directorate aims to bring scientific techniques directly to farmers, offering tools and information on soil health cards, drone technology in plant protection, crop weather forecasts, and general crop estimation surveys. By digitising the entire process—from crop planning to market information—the initiative promises to make farming more efficient and transparent.
In addition to directly assisting farmers, the directorate will create digital infrastructure across various agriculture offices and directorates. Mobile applications, e-governance tools, and e-office systems are expected to speed up the implementation of schemes, ensuring that benefits reach farmers promptly.
The move will also simplify the farmer registry, allowing farmers to complete registrations and access agricultural information online. The e-dashboard system will enable better monitoring of schemes and improve coordination among departments.
