Patna: The Bihar government has announced plans to digitise the university examination system and pre-determine result declaration dates in a bid to tackle persistent delays and bring greater transparency to higher education.
Speaking in the Bihar Legislative Council, the state’s education minister, Sunil Kumar, said the government had decided to move towards a fully digital examination framework. The reform, he added, is part of a broader effort to ensure that academic sessions in universities run on schedule.
Under the proposal, answer scripts would also be evaluated through digital means. The plan has already been placed before a meeting of vice-chancellors, where discussions were held on modernising examination processes. According to the minister, digital evaluation is expected to significantly reduce the time taken to declare results — a longstanding concern for students across the state.
The proposal, however, will require the approval of the governor before implementation. Once cleared, the changes will be introduced in phases across Bihar’s universities. Officials say preparations are under way to fix examination schedules and result dates in advance, a step aimed at bringing predictability to the academic calendar.
He said timely results were a government priority and expressed confidence that the reforms would improve institutional functioning. By combining digital examinations with fixed timelines for results, the state hopes to create a more efficient and accountable higher education system.
