Patna: Installation of exhibits is currently underway at the main science gallery of the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Science City in Bihar, where 47 new displays are being set up. Work is also progressing in three thematic sections – the Sustainable Planet Gallery, the Space and Astronomy Gallery, and the Body and Mind Gallery – as the centre expands its educational offerings.
Civil construction for all five galleries at the science city has been completed, covering a total area of around 7,725 square metres. Across these spaces, 269 science exhibits based on 26 themes are planned. Two sections – the BA Scientists Gallery and the Basic Science Gallery – have already been inaugurated and opened to visitors.
The science city, which was formally inaugurated in September 2025, has already attracted nearly 100,000 visitors. So far, 12 exhibits have been installed in the BA Scientists Gallery and 35 in the Basic Science Gallery. Work is currently underway to develop prototypes for the remaining 47 exhibits planned for the Basic Science Gallery, with installation expected to begin once design approvals are finalised.
Officials said the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) is overseeing the installation of exhibits in three additional galleries through Creative Museum Designers. These include 52 exhibits in the Sustainable Planet Gallery, 58 in the Space and Astronomy Gallery, and 65 in the Body and Mind Gallery. The project will cost about Rs 213.85 crore for these installations, while supporting infrastructure such as sewage treatment and water treatment plants is also being completed.
The Sustainable Planet Gallery will introduce visitors to issues such as climate change, population growth, pollution, agriculture and sustainable urban development. It will also explore energy use, conservation and long-term environmental solutions.
Meanwhile, the Space and Astronomy Gallery will take visitors on a journey through humanity’s exploration of the universe, from ancient observations of the sky to modern advances in space science and technology. The Body and Mind Gallery is designed especially for children and families, offering interactive exhibits that explain the human body and mind in engaging and accessible ways.
