Patna: The Bihar government has started the “Dragon Fruit Vikas Yojana” to encourage farmers to grow dragon fruit. Under this scheme, farmers will get a 60% subsidy on the cost of cultivation. The programme will run during 2025–26 and 2026–27.
The cost of dragon fruit farming is estimated at Rs 6.75 lakh per hectare. Farmers will receive Rs 2.7 lakh as subsidy, given in two instalments — Rs 1.62 lakh in the first year and Rs 1.08 lakh in the second year.
The scheme will be available in 22 districts, including Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur, Purnia, Rohtas, Darbhanga, Siwan and Kishanganj. Farmers can apply online through the agriculture department’s website or contact their district horticulture officer for details.
Dragon fruit is a high-value crop that needs less water and has strong demand in the market. Once planted, it can give farmers income for many years. Experts say the scheme will not only improve earnings but also promote crop diversity in Bihar.
