Patna: The Bihar government is preparing to establish a state-of-the-art Drug Testing Laboratory and Analytical Development Facility (ADF) in Patna, with the aim of strengthening drug quality testing, regulatory support and pharmaceutical research in the state.
A review meeting on the proposed facility was held on September 1 and chaired by Health Minister Nishant Kumar. Senior Health Department officials, including Secretary Kumar Ravi, and representatives from NIPER Hajipur attended the meeting.
Focus On Infrastructure And Accreditation
Officials discussed the proposed facility’s infrastructure, technical capabilities, budget and operational framework. The meeting also reviewed requirements related to laboratory development and accreditation.
Discussions covered skill development, specialised training in nursing and pharmacy, expansion of NIPER and measures to strengthen academic and research activities.
The government said the facility would provide modern infrastructure and technical resources to improve training, research and operational efficiency in the pharmaceutical sector.
Support For Pharmaceutical Industry
The Analytical Development Facility is expected to support routine drug testing as well as the development of new drugs and formulations, analytical methods and quality-control processes.
According to the Health Department, the facility will give pharmaceutical companies, startups, researchers and academic institutions access to advanced testing and research infrastructure.
Training and skill-development programmes are also planned for pharmacy students, industry professionals and technical personnel, using the expertise and technical resources available at NIPER Hajipur.
Strengthening Drug Quality Systems
The proposed laboratory is intended to create stronger infrastructure for drug testing and quality monitoring in Bihar. The government said this would help ensure the availability of safe and quality medicines while providing technical support to pharmaceutical manufacturers.
The facility is also expected to support research and innovation in the pharmaceutical sector and strengthen the state’s regulatory and quality-assurance capabilities.
During the meeting, Nishant described the project as an important initiative for improving drug quality control and pharmaceutical research in Bihar.
He directed officials to expedite the necessary processes and take steps to make the facility operational and beneficial to the pharmaceutical industry, researchers and academic institutions.
