Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary planted Kalpataru and Rudraksh saplings at the Public Servant Residence complex in Patna on Sunday, August 9, to mark Bihar Earth Day 2026.
The Chief Minister appealed to people to make environmental conservation a mass movement and incorporate measures to protect natural resources into their everyday lives.
11-Point Pledge For Environmental Conservation
An 11-point environmental pledge was issued during the event, covering tree plantation, water conservation, waste management, energy use and protection of animals and birds.
The pledge calls on people to plant at least one sapling every year and take responsibility for nurturing it until it grows into a tree.
It also urges residents not to pollute ponds, rivers and other water bodies and to encourage others to follow the same practices.
Focus On Water And Energy Conservation
The pledge calls for avoiding unnecessary consumption of water and turning off taps after use.
It also encourages families to adopt rainwater harvesting at homes, schools and neighbourhoods. People have been urged to use electricity responsibly and switch off lights and fans when leaving a room.
Plastic Use And Waste Management
The environmental pledge also focuses on cleanliness and waste disposal.
People have been encouraged to keep homes, schools and surrounding areas clean and dispose of waste in designated dustbins. The pledge calls for avoiding plastic and polythene and using alternatives such as cloth or paper bags.
Care For Animals And Sustainable Travel
The 11-point pledge includes measures for protecting animals and birds. People have been encouraged to provide food and water to animals and birds whenever possible.
For short-distance travel, the pledge promotes walking and cycling instead of unnecessary use of motor vehicles. It also encourages people to reduce avoidable paper consumption.
Sanitation Also Included In Pledge
The pledge calls for people to avoid open defecation and use toilets.
The measures form part of the broader appeal made during Bihar Earth Day to incorporate environmentally responsible practices into daily routines rather than limiting conservation efforts to special occasions.
Officials Attend Earth Day Event
Additional Chief Secretary of the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Anand Kishore and Secretary to the Chief Minister Sanjay Kumar Singh were present during the programme.
The event focused on public awareness and individual responsibility in protecting Bihar’s natural resources and improving environmental practices across the state.
