Patna: Bihar’s Science, Technology and Technical Education Department has signed a Statement of Intent (SOI) with Google LLC for artificial intelligence (AI) empowerment and infrastructure collaboration, marking a proposed expansion of AI and digital technology training for teachers in the state.
The agreement focuses on preparing teachers to use AI tools in education and strengthening the digital learning environment. The department is responsible for promoting technical education and emerging technology-based courses and training in Bihar.
Teachers To Get Gemini And NotebookLM Training
Under the collaboration, teachers are proposed to receive training in the safe and effective use of Google’s Gemini and NotebookLM.
The training will cover applications such as lesson planning, improving teaching methods and simplifying administrative work. Teachers will also be introduced to ways AI can be used as a teaching assistant and tutoring support tool.
Google has separately said its India-focused Google AI Educator Series provides educators with training on responsible AI use and applications of Gemini in teaching and learning.
Training In Hindi And English
The proposed Google AI Educator Series will provide training in Hindi and English, with content adapted to local requirements.
The programme also proposes competency-based assessment and certification, allowing participating teachers to develop and demonstrate their AI skills.
The collaboration is aimed at connecting AI training with practical classroom requirements rather than treating it only as a technology-focused programme.
Smart Classrooms And Digital Libraries
The proposed cooperation also covers Bihar’s broader digital education infrastructure.
Plans include digital identities for teachers and secure, personalised access to Google AI tools.
Technical support is also proposed for the development of ICT laboratories, smart classrooms, connected classrooms, digital libraries and language laboratories.
Teachers To Share AI-Based Practices
The collaboration proposes supporting Google Educator Groups, which can provide platforms for peer learning and sharing examples of AI-based teaching practices.
Teachers will be able to exchange approaches and classroom applications, potentially allowing successful practices to be adapted in other schools.
Hybrid Training And Certification
The proposed programme will also include hybrid training and certification, combining online and offline learning.
Along with basic AI literacy, the training will focus on how teachers can integrate Gemini and other digital tools into their teaching methods.
Focus On Future-Ready Education
The department has positioned the collaboration as part of efforts to connect teachers with emerging AI and digital technologies.
The state government will support teacher participation, coordination and the required infrastructure for the proposed activities.
Google has also identified teacher training and responsible AI use as key components of its wider India education initiatives, including training educators to use Gemini and NotebookLM for personalised instruction.
The Bihar-Google Statement of Intent therefore brings together AI training for teachers, digital learning tools and education infrastructure, with the proposed aim of strengthening technology-enabled teaching and learning in the state.
