Patna: Bihar’s Education Minister Sunil Kumar chaired a review meeting on Tuesday to assess the implementation of schemes under the Directorate of Primary Education and the Directorate of Secondary Education.
During the meeting, the minister announced that one government school in each district, subdivision, and block will be designated as a “model school,” aimed at matching or exceeding the standards of private institutions. He also directed officials to establish higher secondary schools in any panchayat currently without one.
Sunil Kumar emphasised resolving pending salary discrepancies among teachers, ensuring all staff receive the correct dearness allowance (DA) and house rent allowance (HRA) through the HRMS portal. He instructed officials to promote teachers with pending promotions in line with rules and to rationalise teacher deployment according to student numbers.
The minister also stressed the importance of regular school inspections, including random visits by state-level officials. Expressing displeasure with the Additional Chief Secretary of the Education Department, Dr B. Rajender, Sunil Kumar noted that several districts, including Patna, Bhagalpur, and Muzaffarpur, had yet to submit teacher vacancy reports. So far, 17 districts have provided data on vacancies for grades 1 to 12.
