Patna: As the Bihar Assembly Election 2025 gathers pace, the old debate over dynastic politics has returned with full force. Despite frequent criticism of parivarvad — or family rule — from every corner of the political spectrum, almost every party in Bihar has chosen to reward its own relatives in the first wave of ticket distribution.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is set to begin the election campaign on Thursday, even as both allies and rivals face accusations of hypocrisy. Parties that routinely attack each other for nepotism have now fielded sons, wives, daughters, and relatives of sitting or former leaders across constituencies.
RJD, BJP, JD(U), and Others Keep It in the Family
The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has given a ticket to Deepu Singh, the son of sitting Sandesh MLA Kiran Devi, replacing his mother as the candidate. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nominated Sujit Singh, husband of outgoing MLA Swarn Singh from Gaurabauram, while Rama Nishad, wife of former MP Ajay Nishad, will contest from Aurai.
The Janata Dal (United) has followed a similar pattern, fielding Atirek Ram, son of senior leader Ashok Ram. Gopal Narayan Singh’s son Trivikram has received a BJP ticket, while Rashtriya Lok Morcha chief Upendra Kushwaha’s wife Snehlata will also contest.
