Patna: Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar arrived in Patna on Friday evening with a high-level team to review preparations for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, with the poll schedule likely to be announced within the next few days.
Kumar’s visit marks the final stage before the formal declaration of election dates. Over the next two days, he and his team will hold separate meetings with political parties, senior state government officials, and security agencies. The discussions will cover polling booth arrangements, voter awareness, law and order, and the deployment of election personnel across Bihar’s 243 constituencies.

The arrival comes just days after the publication of the final electoral rolls on September 30, which saw the removal of 6.5 million names through the Special Intensive Revision process. Senior Deputy Election Commissioner Manish Garg has already conducted a preliminary review via video conference with state officials, while 470 election observers were briefed in Delhi earlier this week.
According to officials, Kumar will personally assess Bihar’s readiness during the October 4–5 visit. Once the team returns to Delhi, the Commission is expected to finalise the schedule and announce election dates within two to three days. Polling is anticipated to be held in two or three phases.
