Patna: Union Minister and JD(U) leader Rajiv Ranjan alias Lallan Singh will campaign in Mokama today on behalf of NDA candidate Anant Singh, who is currently lodged in Beur Jail following his arrest in the murder case of RJD leader Dular Chand Yadav.
The political atmosphere in Mokama has been tense since the October 30 killing of Dular Chand Yadav, a supporter of the Jan Suraaj Party, which led to violent clashes between rival factions. Anant Singh, the JD(U) candidate and a well-known strongman in the region, was arrested on Saturday night and sent to 14 days’ judicial custody.
Lallan Singh, who represents the Munger Lok Sabha constituency that includes Mokama, will now spearhead the NDA’s campaign in the area. According to party sources, the Union Minister will address a public rally in Mokama and later visit several villages under the Mokama Municipal Council to mobilise support for Anant Singh.
He is scheduled to travel by road from Patna to Pandarak West village, covering key areas including Pandarak East, Kanhaipur, Sultanpur, Mor West, Mor East, Barhpur, Shivnar, and Chhatrapur.
Anant Singh, popularly known as “Chhote Sarkar,” has dominated Mokama’s political scene for nearly two decades, winning the assembly seat five times since 2005. In 2020, he won on an RJD ticket but was later convicted and disqualified. His wife, Neelam Devi, won the subsequent by-election in 2022.
