Patna : The Bihar Energy Department has stepped up preparations to ensure safe and uninterrupted electricity supply during Navratri and Durga Puja, with instructions issued to officials across electrical circles to strengthen safety measures at puja pandals, fairgrounds and crowded public places.

Energy Minister Shailesh Kumar, popularly known as Bulo Mandal, has directed officials to take timely action to prevent electrical accidents and reduce disruptions during the festival. The measures include replacing damaged wires, improving electrical infrastructure in crowded areas and ensuring the availability of equipment for emergency repairs.

24-Hour Control Room To Monitor Power Supply

The department will operate a 24-hour control room at its headquarters to monitor electricity supply and coordinate responses to power-related emergencies during Durga Puja.

Adequate numbers of officers and personnel have been deployed to handle emergencies and minimise interruptions.

The arrangements are intended to help officials respond quickly to faults, transformer failures and other disruptions during the festival, when large numbers of devotees are expected to visit pandals and fairgrounds.

Damaged Wires To Be Replaced, Safety Measures Strengthened

The Energy Department has prioritised the replacement of dilapidated electrical wires and improvements to distribution infrastructure in areas with heavy public movement.

Where necessary, bare 11-kV conductor lines are being replaced with covered conductors, while guard wires are being installed to strengthen safety arrangements.

The department is also prioritising the replacement of bare low-tension (LT) wires with aerial bundled (AB) cables and the fencing of distribution transformers.

These measures are intended to reduce electrical hazards and improve the safety of electricity infrastructure around crowded festival venues.

Emergency Equipment And Transformers Kept Ready

The department has also made arrangements to maintain electricity supply in flood-affected areas.

To ensure that supply can be restored quickly following transformer failures or other disruptions, regional authorities have been provided with adequate stocks of transformers, electrical materials, equipment and other essential resources.

The availability of these supplies is expected to help field teams respond promptly when repairs or replacement work becomes necessary.

Officials Directed To Remain Alert During Durga Puja

The Energy Department has instructed electricity officials and field personnel to carry out their duties with vigilance, promptness and responsibility throughout the festival.

The focus is on preventing electrical accidents, responding quickly to supply interruptions and maintaining reliable power distribution across Bihar.

The department’s preparations combine infrastructure upgrades, emergency staffing, equipment availability and round-the-clock monitoring to support safer Durga Puja celebrations.

The final outcome will depend on timely implementation of the safety measures and effective coordination among officials at the headquarters and regional levels.
