Patna: Authorities in Bihar have intensified an anti-corruption crackdown, with investigators targeting a police inspector in a widening probe into alleged illicit wealth.
The state’s Economic Offences Unit (EOU) on Tuesday conducted coordinated searches at five locations linked to Inspector Abhishek Kumar Ranjan, the station house officer of Kishanganj Town police station. The raids took place across Patna, Chhapra and Kishanganj.
Officials said the action is part of an investigation into allegations that the inspector amassed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. Preliminary findings suggest assets exceeding Rs 1.70 crore, prompting the EOU to register a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act (Case No. 05/2026).
In Saran district, investigators searched Ranjan’s ancestral home in Paiga village under Bheldi police station limits, where documents are being examined. Simultaneously, teams carried out searches at his residence and official chamber in Kishanganj, located a short distance from the Town police station. A separate operation was also underway in Patna’s Ramkrishna Nagar area.
The action follows recent action against Gautam Kumar, a sub-divisional police officer in Kishanganj, whose alleged assets worth crores were uncovered during an earlier EOU probe.
The latest raids indicate a broader effort by authorities to investigate suspected corruption within the police ranks, with further details expected as the inquiry progresses.
