Patna: The Bihar government has announced subsidies of up to 75% for the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in an effort to expand charging infrastructure and promote the adoption of electric mobility.
The initiative is part of the state’s broader target of achieving 30% EV sales by 2030, according to the transport department.
Under the scheme, financial assistance will be provided for the installation of both AC and DC charging systems in public and private spaces.
Subsidy for AC and DC chargers
Officials said incentives would be available for slow and medium AC chargers used for electric vehicles.
For the first 450 AC chargers installed, applicants can receive a subsidy of up to Rs. 75,000 per unit. Fast AC chargers will also be covered under the scheme, with financial assistance of up to Rs. 2.25 lakh for the first 450 units.
The government has also announced support of up to Rs. 2.25 lakh for medium-capacity DC chargers.
Government bodies eligible for support
State corporations, boards, urban local bodies and public sector undertakings will be allowed to establish public charging stations on land owned by them.
These institutions will also be eligible for government incentives under the policy.
Officials said the objective was to improve charging access not only in urban centres but also in rural areas to encourage wider use of electric vehicles.
Residential complexes to be included
The government will also encourage residential buildings, welfare associations and government housing societies to install private charging stations.
To qualify, residential premises must have a minimum of five car parking spaces.
According to the transport department, expanding charging facilities in residential areas is expected to encourage more people to shift towards electric vehicles while also contributing to pollution control and environmental protection.
