Patna/Jaipur: Rajasthan Royals kept their IPL 2026 playoff hopes alive with a seven-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Tuesday, powered by another explosive innings from Bihar batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
Chasing a target of 221, Rajasthan reached 224 for 3 in 19.1 overs. Suryavanshi scored 93 runs off 38 balls, hitting 10 sixes and seven fours. He also registered his third half-century of the season in just 22 deliveries.
The innings took Suryavanshi’s six tally in IPL 2026 to 53, making him the second-highest six-hitter in a single IPL season. He surpassed Andre Russell, who had hit 52 sixes in a season.
Rajasthan Stay in Playoff Race
The win was crucial for Rajasthan Royals, who had not won a home match this season before the clash against Lucknow Super Giants.
Rajasthan moved to 12 points and remained in contention for the playoffs. Their next fixture against Mumbai Indians on May 24 is expected to play a decisive role in their qualification hopes.
Most Sixes by an Indian in a Single IPL Season
Suryavanshi has also become the Indian batter with the most sixes in a single IPL season. He went past Abhishek Sharma, who had hit 42 sixes for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2024.
The 15-year-old now has 579 runs from 13 matches at a strike rate of 244.74. He has also crossed the mark of 50 boundaries this season.
Third Occasion of Starting Innings with a First-Ball Six
Suryavanshi began his innings with a six for the third time this season, joining a select list of IPL batters to achieve the feat three times in a single edition.
Before him, Shahrukh Khan in 2023, Sunil Narine in 2025, and Devdutt Padikkal in 2026 had recorded similar milestones.
This was also the eighth instance of Suryavanshi starting an IPL innings with a six.
Fastest Indian IPL Century
Earlier this season, Suryavanshi scored a 36-ball century against Gujarat Titans, finishing with 103 runs that included 12 sixes and five fours.
The knock made him the third-fastest centurion in IPL history behind Chris Gayle, who scored a 30-ball hundred in 2013. Suryavanshi also became the fastest Indian batter to score an IPL century.
His 12 sixes in that innings established a new record for the most sixes by an Indian in a single IPL innings, surpassing Murali Vijay, who had hit 11 sixes in 2010.
Fastest to 50 Sixes and 500 IPL Runs
Suryavanshi has also become the fastest player to reach 50 IPL sixes, achieving the mark in 15 innings. The previous record belonged to Chris Gayle, who reached the milestone in 21 innings.
The Rajasthan opener recently completed 500 IPL runs in just 227 balls, the fastest in league history. He broke the previous record held by Glenn Maxwell, who had reached the mark in 260 balls.
Fastest to 100 T20 Sixes
Suryavanshi has also set a record for the fastest 100 sixes in T20 cricket. He achieved the milestone in 514 balls, overtaking Kieron Pollard, who had taken 843 balls.
The Rajasthan opener has emerged as one of the standout performers of IPL 2026 and continues to play a central role in the franchise’s late push for a playoff place.
