Patna: Bihar is positioning itself as an emerging centre for film production and media education through a series of government-backed initiatives aimed at supporting local talent and attracting filmmakers to the state.
Under a new film promotion policy, the Bihar State Film Development and Finance Corporation has awarded scholarships worth Rs 28 lakh to 41 students pursuing professional training in filmmaking and media studies.
According to officials, 22 students are currently studying at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, while 19 students have enrolled at the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata.
The state government has also launched a free five-month filmmaking course at Aryabhatta Knowledge University for graduates interested in entering the media and entertainment sector.
Subsidy Scheme for Film Production
To encourage film shoots within the state, the government has introduced a subsidy scheme for producers filming in Bihar.
Under the policy, filmmakers who complete at least 75 per cent of their shooting within Bihar are eligible for financial assistance of up to Rs 4 crore.
Officials said permission has so far been granted for the shooting of 52 films under the scheme, of which 48 projects have already completed production.
The initiative is also expected to generate economic activity in sectors linked to film production, including hospitality, transport and tourism.
Digital Portal for Artists and Vendors
As part of efforts to streamline film production services, the government has launched a dedicated digital portal for artists and service providers.
More than 350 artists and over 11 vendors have registered on the platform so far, according to officials.
The portal is intended to help filmmakers access local talent and services, including actors, directors, camera crews, studio facilities and security arrangements, through a single platform.
Officials said the policy aims to strengthen Bihar’s creative ecosystem while creating employment opportunities for young professionals seeking careers in cinema and media production.
