Khagaria: A bizarre misuse of Bihar’s online portal for residence certificates has come to light, with authorities in Khagaria district flagging fake applications submitted under the names of Hindu deities Ram and Sita, as well as a crow.
The district administration said it has rejected several such applications submitted through the RTPS portal and has initiated police action, registering FIRs against unknown individuals in affected police station areas, including Chautham, Gogri, and Chitraguptanagar.
Officials said the fraudulent activity could have gone undetected had it not been caught during routine monitoring. “If the scrutiny had been delayed, certificates could have been issued in the name of ‘Lord Ram’ just like previous cases,” one official said, referring to earlier applications submitted under names such as “Dog Babu”, “Dogesh” and “Tractor”.
Sadar Revenue Officer Shambhu Kumar confirmed that a case was registered on August 1 (case number 82/2025) in Chitraguptanagar police station, based on a December 2024 application under the name “Kaua” (crow). Authorities are now reviewing internal processes to prevent misuse of government services and to safeguard the integrity of official documents.
“We are considering stricter verification measures for online applications to avoid such breaches,” Kumar added.
