Patna: The Dharali disaster in Uttarakhand has left 11 people from West Champaran district in Bihar missing. With no news for days, families have begun performing symbolic cremations, believing their loved ones are gone. This brings the total number of missing from the district to 14.
Seven missing are from Mangalhiya in Sikta block, three from Chanpatia, and one from Bairia. Those presumed dead include Rakesh Kumar, Guddu Kumar, Brijesh Yadav, and two young men named Sandeep Kumar. Families made effigies of the missing and cremated them in traditional rituals.
Others still missing include Ramakant Kumar, Hariom Kumar, Ranjan Kumar, Krishna Ram, Ramadhar Kushwaha, and Nishu Sharma. Relatives have gone to Uttarakhand to search, contacting local authorities and police, but have found no trace so far.
Officials have asked local officers to prepare a list of the missing and share it with the District Disaster Office so that families can receive government help. People have been urged to call the helpline issued by the Uttarakhand administration with any information.
