Patna: Rising water levels in the Ganga have inundated large swathes of Bihar’s Diara region near Patna, cutting off road access to several villages and leaving residents stranded. With floodwaters breaching farmlands and homes, locals have urged the government to deploy boats to restore basic connectivity.
On Monday, water from the Ganga spilled over into Danapur’s low-lying Diara areas, submerging roads and agricultural fields. The sudden surge has rendered dozens of villages—including Purani Panapur, Kasimchak, Hetanpur, Ganghara, Patlapur, Manas and Akilpur—completely inaccessible by road.
“Water is flowing just outside our houses,” said Jaipal Singh, a resident of Purani Panapur. “The current is too strong, making it extremely difficult to leave home.”
Former district councillor Omprakash Rai and local leaders Munna Kumar and others have called for immediate action, urging the administration to run government boats between villages. With private boat services reduced due to the rising water levels, the demand for public transport by boat has intensified.
Further east, heavy rainfall has caused rivers Dhowa and Mahatmain to swell, flooding thousands of bighas of paddy fields in Daniyawan and Fatuha blocks. Crops in Shahjahanpur, Salarpur, Sigriyawan and Daniyawan panchayats lie submerged, and floodwaters are encroaching upon the Daniyawan–Biharsharif NH 30A.
In Maner, the situation is equally dire. Continuous rain has caused both the Son and Ganga rivers to overflow, impacting six panchayats in the block’s north-western Diara. Waist-deep water has inundated the Maner–Haldichhapra–Dudhaila and Maner–Chhattar roads, bringing vehicle movement to a halt. Floodwaters have entered villages including Islamganj, Haldichhapra, Dudhaila and Chhahantar.
