Madhepura: The Bihar government has announced that domestic electricity consumers using up to 125 units per month will get free electricity. Smart prepaid meter users who consume within this limit will not need to recharge their meters and will continue to get uninterrupted power supply.
Officials said that around 1.86 crore consumers in the state will benefit from this decision. Out of these, about 1.68 crore households use only up to 125 units monthly. For them, electricity will now be completely free, and they will not have to pay any fixed charges either.
Junior Engineer Mukesh Kumar from the Electricity Department said that postpaid consumers using up to 125 units will get zero bills in the next billing cycle. Prepaid consumers can continue using electricity without recharging, but those who have previous dues should keep recharging to adjust the pending amount.
He further explained that for rural consumers using more than 125 units, the charge will remain just 2.45 paise per unit after subsidy. In urban areas too, consumers will pay reduced rates for additional units. This step by the Bihar government is aimed at reducing the financial burden on families and ensuring regular electricity for daily needs.
