Patna: The Bihar government is set to introduce free physiotherapy services in government hospitals across the state, with private companies expected to play a key role in delivering the initiative.
Under the proposed plan, dedicated physiotherapy centres will be established in hospitals, where patients will be able to access treatment free of cost. Authorities have invited applications from private firms to implement the service, signalling that the rollout is being treated as a priority.
Officials said the centres will be set up across multiple tiers of the public health system, including district hospitals, sub-divisional hospitals, referral hospitals, community health centres and primary health centres.
Private agencies selected through the tender process will be responsible for providing manpower and equipment required for the service. Payments to these agencies will be made based on the services delivered.
The move comes in response to the growing number of patients requiring physiotherapy, particularly those suffering from bone-related ailments and lifestyle diseases. Departmental sources indicate that more than one lakh accidents occur in the state each year, many of which require rehabilitation support.
In addition, age-related conditions and sedentary lifestyles have contributed to a rise in musculoskeletal problems, often forcing patients to spend significant amounts on private treatment.
Officials said the introduction of free physiotherapy services in government hospitals is expected to reduce the financial burden on patients while improving access to essential care.
According to reports, the service is likely to be rolled out at the block level within the next two to three months.
