Bhabhua/Patna: A father and son were killed and another person injured after a herd of nilgai collided with an auto-rickshaw in Bihar’s Kaimur district, police said.
The incident occurred near Naugarh village under the Bhagwanpur police station area when the vehicle overturned following the sudden impact of the animals.
The deceased have been identified as Inar Ram, 60, and his 30-year-old son Prakash Ram, residents of Majhiaon village. An injured survivor, Amitabh Ram, was taken to hospital for treatment.
According to police and eyewitness accounts, the three men were returning home in the early hours when the auto-rickshaw was struck by a herd of nilgai. The animals reportedly leapt onto the vehicle, causing it to lose balance and overturn.
Amitabh Ram, who survived the incident, said several nilgai fell onto the vehicle, crushing the driver and his father. Both sustained severe injuries and died.
Police reached the scene and rushed the injured to Bhabhua sadar hospital, where doctors declared the two men dead.
Officials said an investigation into the incident is under way.
The deaths have sparked grief in the victims’ village, where relatives and residents gathered to mourn. Prakash Ram is survived by three young children.
Family members have called for compensation from the district administration, citing the sudden and tragic nature of the incident.
