Patna: Construction has commenced on the second phase of the JP Ganga Path project in Bihar, with a 17.65km stretch from Sadikpur in Maner to Koilwar now under development.
The project, being executed by Vishwa Samudra Engineering, gathered pace after the company completed its financial closure. Officials said priority is being given to earthwork along the embankment before the monsoon, allowing construction to continue during the rainy season.
The full 35.65km corridor connecting Digha to Koilwar will be developed in two phases. The first phase involves an 18km elevated four-lane road from Digha to Sadikpur, while the second phase comprises a 17.65km ground-level stretch from Maner to Koilwar.
Authorities said the entire route is planned as an expressway aimed at improving connectivity and reducing travel time. Surveys and design work for the elevated section are under way, with construction expected to begin after the monsoon once approvals are secured.
Once completed, the corridor is expected to reduce travel time between Digha and Koilwar to 20–25 minutes, offering relief to commuters in western Patna and areas north of Bailey Road. The route is also expected to ease congestion for traffic heading towards Buxar via the Koilwar bridge.

Officials said the project will improve connectivity with other major infrastructure, including the proposed ring road and the Sherpur-Dighwara bridge, while also benefiting residents of Danapur and Shahpur through improved access roads.
The project is estimated to cost around Rs 5,500 crore and is scheduled for completion within four years. It is being implemented under the hybrid annuity model, with the executing agency responsible for 60% of the project cost and the state government contributing the remaining 40%.
Under the arrangement, the agency will also maintain the road for 15 years after completion, with the government repaying its share over time.
Officials said the project is expected to play a key role in easing traffic pressure and improving regional connectivity in and around Patna.
