Patna: The Bihar government has approved three major road infrastructure projects along the banks of the Ganges as part of its plan to strengthen connectivity across the state. The projects, collectively referred to as ‘Ganga Path’ developments, will create a 118.45-km four-lane road network by 2030.
The state government will spend an estimated Rs 16,465.41 crore on the projects. Officials said the initiative is expected to improve transport links between North and South Bihar, reduce congestion in urban centres, and support trade and tourism activities.
Sultanganj–Bhagalpur Ganga Path
The first project will connect Sultanganj and Bhagalpur through a 40.8-km four-lane Ganga Path. The project has been approved at an estimated cost of Rs 4,849.83 crore and is expected to be completed within four years.
According to officials, the road will improve connectivity in Bhagalpur and nearby areas, including Sultanganj. The route is also expected to ease travel during the annual Shravani Mela, when large numbers of devotees visit the region.
Safiabad–Ghorghat Corridor in Munger
The second project will be developed in Munger district. Under the plan, a 42-km Ganga Path will be constructed from Safiabad to Bariarpur and Ghorghat.
The estimated cost of the project is Rs 5,119.8 crore. The government has also set a four-year completion target for this corridor.
Officials said the project is intended to improve traffic management in Munger and adjoining areas while supporting industrial and commercial activities in the region.
JP Ganga Path Extension to Koilwar
The third project involves the extension of the JP Ganga Path from Digha in Patna to Koilwar near Bihta in Bhojpur district. The proposed four-lane stretch will cover approximately 35.65 km.
The state government has allocated Rs 6,495.78 crore for the project, making it the costliest among the three approved corridors.
Officials said the extension is expected to reduce traffic pressure in Patna and improve travel for commuters heading towards Bihta, Arrah and other parts of Bhojpur district.
Focus on Connectivity and Economic Activity
The Bihar government said the completion of the three projects will significantly strengthen the state’s transport infrastructure and improve regional connectivity along the Ganges corridor.
Officials added that the projects are expected to facilitate smoother movement of goods and passengers while encouraging investment and economic activity in the connected regions.
