Rising Ganga River Puts Bihar on Alert, Safety Measures Stepped Up

With the Ganga river rising, Bihar officials have started emergency preparations to keep people safe near the ghats and villages

Patna: The water level of the Ganga river and its tributaries is rising continuously, creating a flood threat in Bihar. In view of this, the district administration has become alert and started making safety arrangements. District Magistrate Dr Tyagarajan SM has ordered that boats, divers, relief materials, and monitoring teams should be ready immediately to handle any emergency situation.

Officials have been told to put red cloth on dangerous ghats to warn people against bathing there. Station in-charges have been asked to monitor these ghats to prevent accidents. Strict orders have been given to ensure that boats do not carry more passengers than their capacity. The District Magistrate has also asked the Flood Division to keep a 24-hour watch on embankments and sluice gates and repair them if needed.

Municipal Corporation officers have been told to check sump houses to prevent waterlogging in the city. Chowkidars, dafadaars, and magistrates will be deployed at important ghats to control private boat operations and keep people safe. Officials have also been asked to keep detailed records of boats being used in flood-affected areas, including sailor names, mobile numbers, registration numbers, boat capacity, and details of trained divers on board.

The administration said these measures are necessary to protect people living in Diara and other low-lying areas near the river. They have assured that preparations are being monitored round the clock to avoid any tragedy during this monsoon season.
