Bhojpur: A 19-year-old orchestra dancer from Uttar Pradesh was allegedly gangraped in Bihar’s Bhojpur district on Saturday night. Police have arrested three accused, including the orchestra operator, in connection with the incident that took place under the jurisdiction of Karnamepur police station.
According to the complaint, the accused allegedly forced the woman to consume alcohol before taking her to a secluded area where she was sexually assaulted. She was also reportedly assaulted physically when she resisted.
The arrested accused have been identified as orchestra operator Laxman Yadav (40), driver Ashok Kumar Yadav (41), and DJ operator Jitendra Kumar Yadav (21). All three have been taken into custody.
Victim’s Account
As per the victim’s husband, the couple hails from Azamgarh district in Uttar Pradesh. He said his wife had started working with orchestra operator Laxman Yadav on February 1 for stage performances at events such as weddings and ceremonial functions.
Since work was steady, the woman had rented a house in the village. On Saturday, she had gone to perform at a programme along with the orchestra team. The event concluded late at night.
The husband alleged that when his wife asked the operator to drop her home, he was heavily intoxicated and instead called two of his associates. He allegedly forced her to drink alcohol and later took her to his house, where he first raped her.
Subsequently, the operator allegedly asked his two associates to also assault her. The DJ operator and the driver then took the woman on a motorcycle to a secluded location outside the village. The operator followed on another bike. The three allegedly took her into bushes and gangraped her one after another. When she tried to resist, she was beaten, according to the complaint.
The victim, who is the mother of a two-year-old child, managed to inform her husband and a fellow dancer about the incident. A complaint was later lodged with the local police.
Police Action and Investigation
Following the complaint, police arrested all three accused. The survivor was taken to a hospital for medical examination. Officials said her statement will be recorded before a court, and further investigation is underway.
Police have not disclosed additional details but confirmed that the accused are in custody and the case is being investigated as per due process.
