Patna: The Bihar government has assigned new responsibilities to six leaders from the ruling side in the Bihar Legislative Council following recommendations made by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.
The Department of Parliamentary Affairs issued an official notification stating that the appointments came into effect from May 15. The appointments include positions such as Deputy Leader, Chief Whip, Deputy Chief Whip and Whip in the Legislative Council.
Deputy Leaders Given Cabinet Rank
According to the notification, Lalan Kumar Sarraf and Prof. Rajendra Prasad Gupta have been appointed as Deputy Leaders in the Bihar Legislative Council.
Both leaders will receive privileges and facilities equivalent to those provided to Cabinet Ministers.
JD(U) MLC Sanjay Kumar Singh has been appointed as the Chief Whip. He has also been granted Cabinet Minister-level privileges and facilities.
Janak Ram has been appointed as the Deputy Chief Whip and will receive the status and facilities of a Minister of State.
Meanwhile, Neeraj Kumar and Reena Devi have been appointed as Whips. Both leaders have also been accorded the privileges of a Minister of State.
State-Level Implementation Committee Reconstituted
A day before these appointments, the state government reconstituted the State-Level Implementation Committee.
Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has been appointed Chairman of the committee, while Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary has been named Executive Chairman.
Sanjay Saraogi, Umesh Singh Kushwaha and Lalan Kumar Mandal have been appointed as Vice-Chairmen of the committee.
Several legislators, including Chetan Anand, Sangita Kumari, Bharat Bind, Murari Prasad Gautam and Siddharth Saurav, have been inducted as members.
Prahlad Yadav, Neelam Devi, Jagannath Thakur, Rajesh Kumar Verma, Bharti Mehta and Chandan Kumar Singh have also been included in the committee.
Under the notification, both Vice-Chairmen will receive the status of Minister of State, while committee members will be accorded the status of Deputy Minister of State.
The government clarified that members of the Bihar Legislature will continue to receive their existing salaries, allowances and other facilities as per current provisions.
