Patna: The Bihar government has opened a Migrant Workers’ Facilitation Centre in Bengaluru to help workers from the state access welfare schemes, registration services and information about their rights while working in Karnataka.
The centre was inaugurated online from Patna by Arun Shankar Prasad, Bihar’s Labour Resources and Migrant Workers’ Welfare Minister, on Wednesday. The facility has been established by the Department of Labour Resources and Migrant Workers’ Welfare in coordination with the Karnataka Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board.
Registration And Welfare Assistance
The centre will help migrant workers from Bihar register with the Karnataka Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board, enabling eligible workers to access schemes administered by the board.
Officials said the facility will serve as a coordination point between the labour departments of Bihar and Karnataka and help workers navigate government services at their place of employment.
The Karnataka board has provided space for the centre at Suraksha Bhawan in Bengaluru.
Support For Workplace And Emergency Issues
The facility will also assist workers dealing with workplace disputes, health and safety concerns and emergency situations.
According to the department, workers will receive information about wage-related matters, labour laws and their legal rights. Legal assistance will also be available to help workers understand the procedures applicable to their grievances.
Help With Language And Employment Information
The centre is also intended to address communication difficulties faced by migrant workers because of language barriers.
It will provide information about employment opportunities and government services, according to the Labour Resources Department.
Labour Officer Deputed To Run Centre
The Bihar government has deputed Labour Enforcement Officer Akash Kumar to oversee the centre’s operations.
Two data entry operators and an office assistant have also been engaged through an outsourcing arrangement to provide administrative and local support.
Minister Highlights Migrant Workers’ Role
Minister Arun Shankar Prasad said migrant workers from Bihar make an important contribution to the state’s economy and development and require access to welfare services at their workplaces.
He said the Bengaluru centre was established to help resolve issues faced by Bihar workers in Karnataka and make government schemes more accessible to them.
The minister said the initiative was launched under the guidance of Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and is intended to strengthen social security, safety and rights for migrant workers.
More Centres May Follow
The department is considering establishing similar facilitation centres in other states where significant numbers of workers from Bihar are employed.
Officials said the expansion would depend on the needs of migrant workers and would aim to create easier access to government services outside Bihar.
The Bengaluru centre is therefore intended to serve as a direct link between migrant workers and government departments, particularly for workers seeking assistance with registrations, welfare benefits, workplace concerns and legal rights.
