Patna: The Bihar government is preparing to introduce an Artificial Intelligence (AI) education programme in government schools for students from Classes 8 to 12. The initiative will be implemented based on a model developed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), and directions in this regard have been issued to all District Education Officers across the state.

Under the proposed programme, students will be taught AI and digital skills to help them prepare for future technological advancements. The model includes features available on the DIKSHA platform, such as AI-powered video search and a read-aloud tool, which are expected to assist students in better understanding digital learning materials.

Initiative to provide AI education to school students

According to the education department, the use of Artificial Intelligence is expanding rapidly across the world, and it has become essential for students to acquire AI-related knowledge and digital competencies. Keeping this in mind, the government has begun efforts to introduce AI education for school students.

As part of this initiative, a national-level “Skilling for AI Readiness” programme is being rolled out to equip students with foundational knowledge of Artificial Intelligence. Through this programme, students from Classes 6 to 12 will be introduced to key AI concepts and digital skills.

The curriculum will include basic topics such as machine learning, neural networks, and the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence. Officials said the course content has been designed in accordance with global standards to ensure students gain relevant and future-ready skills.

Three modules in the AI programme

The Skilling for AI Readiness programme has been structured into three modules for school students, each consisting of 15 hours of learning. These modules are titled “AI to Be Aware,” “AI to Acquire,” and “AI to Aspire.”

The programme will cover several important concepts, including generative AI, fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence, basic programming principles, applications of AI in daily life, cyber security, and career opportunities in the field of AI.
