Patna: Bihar is witnessing a volatile shift in weather patterns, with the state expected to face a combination of intense heat and storm activity over the next five days, according to the India Meteorological Department.
Temperatures have already crossed the 40°C mark in parts of the state, creating heatwave-like conditions, even as the department has issued warnings for thunderstorms, rainfall and hailstorms in several districts on April 6.
Over the past 24 hours, temperatures have risen sharply across Bihar, particularly in the southwestern region. Dehri in Rohtas recorded the highest temperature at 40.0°C, followed by 39.9°C in Sheikhpura, 39.8°C in Gaya and 39.4°C in Patna. Most districts reported an increase of 1 to 2.5°C.
Meteorologists said strong sunlight and prevailing westerly winds are likely to sustain the heatwave conditions, making outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours potentially hazardous.

In Patna, weather conditions are expected to remain mixed, with hot days likely to be followed by light rain or thunderstorms during the night. The maximum temperature in the city is expected to hover around 38°C in the coming days.
Between April 5 and 7, skies are likely to remain partly cloudy, with temperatures ranging between 37°C and 38°C. A shift is expected on April 8, when moderate rain and thundershowers may bring temperatures down to around 33°C.
The meteorological department has issued an ‘orange alert’ for districts including Buxar, Bhojpur, Kaimur, Rohtas and Aurangabad, warning of strong storms, hailstorms and wind speeds of up to 50–60 kmph.
While eastern districts such as Kishanganj, Purnia, Katihar and Bhagalpur are not currently under severe warning, officials said weather conditions could change rapidly.
Experts attribute the unstable conditions to a western disturbance interacting with moisture from the Bay of Bengal, creating favourable conditions for sudden storms amid intense heat.
Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious, as weather conditions are expected to remain unpredictable in the coming days.
