Patna: The Bihar government has launched a dedicated helpline to support migrant workers from the state amid escalating tensions in the Gulf region.
Deepak Anand, secretary of the department of labour resources and migrant workers welfare, inaugurated the special helpline number – 721 778 8114 – from Bihar Bhawan in Delhi, saying the initiative was aimed at ensuring timely assistance to Bihari workers and their families living abroad.
The move comes against the backdrop of the growing war crisis in parts of West Asia, which has raised concerns about the safety of thousands of Indian workers employed in Gulf countries.
Anand said the state government was fully committed to safeguarding its citizens. “This arrangement has been made in view of the current tense situation in the Middle East, so that no migrant Bihari feels isolated during a crisis,” he said.
According to officials, migrant workers can contact the helpline for information, emergency assistance or grievance redressal. A dedicated team will monitor calls round the clock and coordinate with relevant agencies when necessary.
Anand said the government’s priority was to ensure the safety, dignity and welfare of Bihari workers employed overseas. He also urged family members in Bihar to use the helpline if they faced difficulties or were unable to reach relatives working in Gulf countries.
The state government said such measures were intended not only to provide reassurance during periods of uncertainty but also to strengthen the confidence of migrant workers and their families.
Officials added that all necessary steps would be taken to ensure that any migrant in distress receives timely support.
