Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday unveiled the mascot and trophy of the Hero Asia Cup 2025 in Patna. He also flagged off the “Trophy Gaurav Yatra” which will travel across Bihar and other states to promote the tournament.
The men’s hockey Asia Cup will be hosted in Bihar for the first time. The matches will be played at the international hockey stadium in Rajgir Sports Complex from 29 August to 7 September. Teams from India, China, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia, South Korea, Oman and Bangladesh will compete, with the winner qualifying directly for the Hockey World Cup.
The mascot, named “Chand,” is designed as a tiger symbolising strength and courage, with elements paying tribute to hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand. The tournament will also begin on his birth anniversary, which is celebrated as National Sports Day.
Nitish Kumar said the event was a matter of pride for Bihar and would showcase the state’s ability to host international sports. Senior officials, ministers and hockey players, including India’s goalkeeper P.R. Sreejesh, attended the programme.
