Patna: The Bihar government is planning a comprehensive redevelopment of land owned by the Bihar State Housing Board, with officials working to identify assets across the state and prepare a detailed action plan.
The initiative will involve the use of public-private partnership (PPP) models, with proposals to construct flats and multi-storey buildings on Housing Board land in urban areas.
The move follows a review meeting chaired by deputy chief minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, who also holds the urban development and housing portfolio. During the meeting, officials were asked to provide detailed information on the extent of land and immovable assets held by the Housing Board across cities.
Authorities have sought data on properties currently leased out as well as those under illegal occupation or encroachment. Officials have also been directed to identify such land and initiate steps to clear encroachments.
Vinay Kumar, secretary of the urban development and housing department, said the process of compiling asset details was under way and would form the basis of a redevelopment strategy.
In Patna alone, more than 750 Housing Board properties have been identified as encroached, officials said.
The proposed redevelopment is expected to focus on optimising land use, improving housing infrastructure and attracting private investment through PPP arrangements.
Officials said a detailed plan will be finalised once the asset review is completed, with the aim of transforming underutilised land into residential and commercial developments.
