Patna: Iftar gatherings during Ramadan have taken on a political dimension in Bihar, with several prominent leaders planning events in Patna amid the ongoing Rajya Sabha elections in Bihar.
Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, leader of the opposition and national working president of Rashtriya Janata Dal, is expected to attend an Iftar hosted by the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) in Patna. The event has drawn attention as it brings Tejashwi onto a platform associated with the party led by Asaduddin Owaisi.
Political observers say Tejashwi’s presence could signal efforts to consolidate support in the Seemanchal region, where the Muslim electorate plays a significant role in electoral outcomes.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, is scheduled to host a large Iftar gathering at his official residence at 1, Anne Marg in Patna on March 18. The event is expected to take place shortly after the formal announcement of the Rajya Sabha election results.
The annual Iftar at the chief minister’s residence traditionally draws a wide range of political leaders, religious figures and community representatives. This year’s gathering is likely to attract particular attention as Nitish prepares for what supporters describe as a new political phase following the elections.
Union Minister Chirag Paswan, who is national president of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), has also announced an Iftar gathering at his party office in Patna on March 16, the day voting for the Rajya Sabha seats concludes.
His party said the event would bring together leaders and supporters as the political landscape evolves after the results.
In Bihar’s political circles, Iftar gatherings during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan are often seen not only as social events but also as opportunities for political outreach and relationship-building.
