Bhagalpur/Patna: Passengers travelling on the Janseva Intercity Express between Muzaffarpur and Bhagalpur will soon benefit from upgraded LHB coaches, with Indian Railways set to introduce the new rolling stock from 16 May.
The Janseva Express, operating as train numbers 13419 and 13420, also stops in Samastipur district, serving thousands of daily commuters and long-distance passengers across north and eastern Bihar.
Railway to Modify Rake Structure
Railway officials said the transition to Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches would modernise the service while improving safety and ride quality. Although the number of coaches will remain unchanged, the rake configuration is expected to be modified.
Under the revised arrangement, the number of guard-cum-SLR coaches will be reduced from two to one, while an additional power car will be attached to strengthen onboard electricity supply systems.
The train will continue to operate with 11 general coaches, alongside two sleeper coaches and two third AC coaches.
Improved Power Supply and Passenger Facilities
The shift to generator-based power systems is expected to improve electrical reliability inside the train, particularly during acceleration and halts. Officials said passengers would experience more stable lighting and onboard facilities irrespective of speed fluctuations.
LHB Coaches to Enhance Safety and Comfort
LHB coaches, originally based on German engineering technology, are increasingly being introduced across India’s railway network due to their enhanced safety standards. Unlike older ICF coaches, LHB coaches feature an anti-telescopic design intended to prevent coaches from climbing over one another during accidents.
They are also fitted with improved suspension systems designed to reduce jerks and vibrations, offering passengers a smoother and quieter journey.
Coaches Designed for Higher Speeds
The coaches are capable of operating at speeds between 120km/h and 160km/h, although operational speeds depend on route conditions and railway signalling infrastructure.
“The introduction of LHB coaches on regional routes marks an important step towards improving rail safety and passenger comfort beyond premium trains,” said railway transport analyst Amit Kumar.
