Patna: Landowners in Bihar will no longer need to navigate lengthy paperwork to obtain land-related documents, as the state government moves to make all such records available online from January 1.
The Revenue and Land Reforms Department issued an order on Wednesday, confirmed by Secretary Jai Singh, stipulating that only digitally signed copies of documents obtained through the official online portal will be considered valid from the start of the new year. Copies of the order have been circulated to all relevant officials.
Until now, obtaining certified land documents required submitting a physical application, paying stamp duty, and waiting seven to 14 days for verification. Landowners often had to make multiple visits to government offices.
Singh noted that the online land records portal already allows users to access scanned copies of revenue records, with some landowners successfully obtaining digitally signed versions by paying the prescribed fees.
Under the new directive, if a particular document is not available on the portal, applicants will still need to submit a request online. The department has committed to making such documents available digitally upon request.
