Patna: A man from Bihar’s Bhojpur district has stunned election officials by appearing in person to dispute his inclusion in the state’s draft voter list as a deceased individual.
Mintu Paswan said his name was removed from the updated roll during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process after being incorrectly marked as dead. “I am alive,” he told the Chief Electoral Officer’s office in Patna, alleging that the booth level officer responsible never visited his home during the revision.
Accompanied by members of the CPI(ML), Mintu said he had also approached the Supreme Court earlier this week to assert his status as a living voter. The party claims to have identified 21 people across Bihar who have been wrongly declared dead, with 10 already taking the matter to court.
According to CPI(ML) secretary Kunal, election officials have advised Mintu to reapply as a new voter by submitting Form 6, despite his history of voting in previous elections. The booth level officer involved has reportedly admitted to removing Mintu’s name by mistake, saying it was intended for another person.
