Patna: Bihar’s flagship public infrastructure projects have been given fresh completion targets after the state’s Building Construction Department conducted a comprehensive review of ongoing works and expressed concern over delays in some schemes.
A review meeting of projects under the Structural Sub-division, including electrical works, was held on Tuesday at Visvesvaraya Bhawan in Patna. The meeting was chaired by Pranav Kumar, Secretary of the Building Construction Department.
Senior officials reviewed the physical progress, construction quality and implementation timelines of several major projects across the state, while identifying bottlenecks and discussing measures to accelerate execution.
Science City, Engineering University Among Projects Reviewed
The review covered several high-profile developments, including the APJ Abdul Kalam Science City in Patna, Bihar Engineering University, the Joint Building (Sanyukt Bhawan), the College of Agricultural Biotechnology at Sabour, the College of Agricultural Engineering in Ara and the proposed Jeevika headquarters.
The Secretary instructed officials to ensure that all projects are completed within their stipulated timelines while maintaining high construction standards.
Additional Secretary, Chief Engineer, Superintending Engineer and Executive Engineer of the department were among those present at the meeting.
Bihar Engineering University Nears Completion
Construction of Bihar Engineering University on a nearly five-acre campus in Patna is in its final stage, according to officials.
Finishing work and campus cleaning are currently underway. The Secretary directed engineers to complete all remaining work within one week.
Sabour Agricultural Biotechnology College Targeted For December
The meeting also reviewed progress on the College of Agricultural Biotechnology at Sabour in Bhagalpur, where academic and administrative buildings, boys’ and girls’ hostels and an animal house are under construction.
Officials informed the meeting that the project is expected to be completed by December 2026.
Meanwhile, construction of the guest house and hostels at the College of Agricultural Engineering in Ara is also reported to be at an advanced stage.
Science City Galleries To Be Fast-Tracked
At APJ Abdul Kalam Science City in Patna, officials reviewed the installation of exhibits for the ‘Sustainable Planet’, ‘Astronomy and Space’ and ‘Body and Mind’ galleries under Phase 2.
The department also directed that the installation of the remaining exhibits from Phase 1 be expedited.
Jeevika Headquarters And Legislative Museum Progress Reviewed
The department said an agency has been selected to construct the new Jeevika headquarters on a 0.92-acre site in Patna. Barricading work has begun, and the proposed building will have seven floors above the ground level (G+7).
Construction of the Joint Building (Sanyukt Bhawan) was also reviewed, with officials instructed to complete the project at the earliest.
The meeting additionally assessed progress on the digital museum of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, which is being developed on a 1.74-acre campus.
According to the department, the museum will digitally document the history of the Bihar legislature, including information on former Chief Ministers, Speakers of the Legislative Assembly, Chairpersons of the Legislative Council and Members of the Legislative Assembly, alongside a digital presentation of the institution’s century-long history.
‘No Compromise’ On Quality Or Deadlines
Expressing dissatisfaction over delays in some projects, Pranav Kumar instructed officials to speed up construction and strengthen project monitoring.
He directed the department’s Chief Engineer to maintain continuous oversight and warned engineers that there would be no compromise on construction quality or adherence to project timelines, stressing that all works must be completed to the required standards within the prescribed schedule.
