Patna: Former Bihar minister Nitish Mishra has issued a detailed clarification after social media posts and some news outlets alleged that he was among several leaders drawing both salary and pension simultaneously. Mishra said the claims stem from “incomplete and misleading information” derived from an RTI response that, he argues, has been selectively quoted and circulated without verification.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Mishra said he had sought a full explanation from the Senior Treasury Officer to address the matter conclusively. According to him, the Treasury’s written reply, dated December 8, 2025, confirms that he received a former MLA pension only for a brief period — from September 22, 2015 to November 8, 2015 — during which he was not an MLA. The pension was discontinued thereafter.
“No public representative can receive both salary and pension simultaneously; it is completely impossible,” Mishra wrote. He said the circulation of the claim without seeking his response was “contrary to natural justice” and amounted to an attempt to tarnish his image.

He added that “transparency and truth have always been paramount” for him and urged the public to verify facts before sharing unconfirmed information, particularly when RTI data is incomplete or presented out of context.
Mishra’s clarification follows a wave of online commentary alleging that several present and former Bihar legislators were drawing dual benefits. Some leaders, including Upendra Kushwaha, have issued similar rebuttals, but Mishra emphasised that his case has been misrepresented and that official records clearly disprove the claims.
He also attached the Treasury Officer’s letter to his social media post, saying it “fully settles the matter” and demonstrates that he has not received any MLA pension since November 2015.
