Patna: The oath-taking ceremony for 10 newly elected members of the Bihar Legislative Council will be held on July 1 at 4 PM in the Council’s sub-auditorium in Patna. Officials have confirmed that all preparations for the programme have been completed.
The event is expected to draw political attention, particularly due to the presence of Bhojpuri actor-singer Pawan Singh and Nishant Kumar, both of whom will be taking oath for the first time as MLCs.
Ceremony Scheduled in Patna
According to the Legislative Council Secretariat, all 10 members will be administered the oath of office and secrecy in a single ceremony. The new members were elected unopposed after the nomination withdrawal deadline passed without any contest.
NDA Secures Majority of Seats
In the biennial and by-election process for 10 Council seats, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured nine seats, while one seat went to the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
The elected members include Nishant Kumar, Bharti Mehta, Shivani Devi Prajapati and Lalan Prasad from the Janata Dal (United), while Pawan Singh, Sanjay Prakash Mayukh, Anil Thakur and Sheila Pandit were elected from the Bharatiya Janata Party. Ashraf Ansari of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) and Sunil Singh of the RJD also secured membership.
Uncontested Election Process
All 10 candidates filed nominations for 10 available seats. After scrutiny, all nomination papers were found valid, and no withdrawals reduced the number of candidates below the available seats. As a result, voting was not required, and all candidates were declared elected unopposed on June 11.
Focus on First-Time MLCs
The ceremony marks the formal beginning of the legislative tenure for all newly elected members. Attention is particularly centred on Pawan Singh and Nishant Kumar, whose entry into the Council is being closely watched within Bihar’s political circles.
