Patna: The Bihar government has announced plans to modernise bus terminals across the state, with 31 locations identified for redevelopment under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
The project, to be executed by the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC), aims to build integrated bus terminals with upgraded passenger facilities and commercial infrastructure, similar to those in major metropolitan cities such as Delhi and Mumbai.
Patna and Muzaffarpur are among the cities set to receive high-tech terminals.
PPP model for construction and maintenance
Under the proposed model, urban local bodies will provide land for the projects, while private partners will be responsible for construction, operation and maintenance.
After completion, the terminals will be leased to private agencies for a fixed period. Once the lease ends, ownership and control of the facilities will be transferred back to the corporation.
Officials said the project is expected to support urban expansion and encourage economic activity in surrounding areas.
Multi-storey terminals with passenger amenities
BSRTC said the new bus depots will be developed as five-storey structures.
The ground floor will house bus parking and workshop facilities, while upper floors will accommodate offices, shops, waiting areas and hospitality spaces.
Passenger facilities planned at the terminals include air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned waiting rooms, digital information systems, clean drinking water, toilets, parking areas, help desks, ATMs and security systems.
Special provisions for senior citizens and persons with disabilities will also be included.
Commercial spaces and EV charging stations
The terminals will also feature shopping malls, cafeterias, hotels, dormitories, guest rooms, feeding rooms, banquet halls and entertainment zones.
Fuel retail outlets for petrol and diesel, along with EV charging stations, are part of the plan, reflecting the state’s push towards electric mobility.
Officials said additional services such as Didi Ki Rasoi will also be introduced at select locations.

The 31 locations selected for the project include Patna, Muzaffarpur, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Purnea, Darbhanga, Munger, Jamui, Nawada, Saharsa, Paliganj, Laheriasarai, Madhubani, Kishanganj, Motihari, Chhapra, Sultanganj, Naubatpur, Barbigha, Mokama, Chakai, Sitamarhi, Bihar Sharif, Aurangabad, Ara, Jehanabad, Sangrampur, Tarapur, Bhadauni, Sikandra and Rajgir.
