Patna: The Bihar government has approved the construction of a new Indian Police Service (IPS) mess in Patna, with an estimated cost of Rs 37.39 crore, officials said on Friday.
Deputy chief minister Samrat Choudhary said the project had received formal clearance and would provide improved residential and working facilities for senior police officers. The proposed building will be a multi-storey structure with a basement, ground floor and four additional floors, and will include furniture and supporting infrastructure.
Choudhary said the project was part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government’s broader push to modernise police infrastructure across the state. The government, led by chief minister Nitish Kumar, has recently approved several other police-related construction projects, including a new office building for the superintendent of police in East Champaran, a reserve office and armoury at the Dehri police centre in Rohtas, and a 200-bed modern barracks for women police personnel at the Lakhisarai police centre.
The state government has argued that improved infrastructure is essential for strengthening policing capacity and ensuring better working conditions for officers and personnel.
