Patna: The Mokama Assembly segment remains on edge following fresh violence during the funeral procession of Dular Chand Yadav, a Jan Suraaj supporter who was shot dead on Thursday. The incident, occurring just days before the Bihar Assembly elections, has deepened unrest in the politically sensitive region.
Despite heavy police deployment, tension flared as the funeral procession moved through the area. Eyewitnesses reported that unidentified individuals hurled bricks and stones at the procession, shattering the glass of a vehicle and triggering panic.
Images from the site showed roads littered with bricks and debris after the clashes. Police had to intervene to restore order, while many locals who had gathered to pay their respects reportedly turned back amid fears of renewed violence.
The situation in Mokama had already been volatile since Thursday’s killing of Dular Chand Yadav, who was allegedly shot following a clash between supporters of Jan Suraaj and JD (U) candidate Anant Singh’s convoy.
Anant Singh, who has been named in an FIR related to the shooting, has denied involvement, accusing RJD leader Suraj Bhan Singh of orchestrating the violence. “Our vehicles were attacked first, and Dular Chand tried to defuse the situation. This entire incident is Suraj Bhan’s conspiracy to incite conflict before the elections,” Singh said.
Police have intensified patrolling in Mokama and surrounding areas, while the investigation into both the murder and subsequent violence remains ongoing.
