Patna: The monsoon has regained momentum in Bihar, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for 24 districts on Saturday. The forecast warns of rain, lightning, and strong winds reaching up to 40 km/h, with Patna placed under a heavy rain alert.
In the past 24 hours, rainfall was recorded in Patna, Supaul, Nalanda, Muzaffarpur, Motihari, and Chhapra. Heavy downpours left parts of the capital waterlogged on Friday, where the maximum temperature reached 34°C. On Saturday morning, skies remained overcast in Patna while steady rain lashed Buxar.
The Patna Meteorological Centre has attributed the renewed activity to a strong low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, which is set to influence weather patterns in Bihar until September 22. Officials have urged residents across affected districts to remain vigilant.
According to meteorologists, North Bihar and the border districts are likely to bear the brunt of the system, with moderate to heavy rainfall predicted over the next three days. South Bihar will also see scattered showers. The persistent rain is expected to reduce maximum temperatures by 2–3 degrees.
“Rainfall activity has increased due to heightened humidity levels in the atmosphere, with the Bay of Bengal system now in a strong position directly impacting Bihar,” a scientist at the Meteorological Centre said.
The forecast indicates that the capital will remain cloudy through Saturday, with light to moderate rain in many areas and the possibility of heavy downpours accompanied by gusty winds in some parts.
