Patna: Head teachers and principals recruited through the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC), who have faced delays of nearly two months in receiving their salaries, have been assured payment within a week.
The state’s Education Department has instructed District Education Officers (DEOs) and District Programme Officers (Establishment) across Bihar to ensure that the salaries are credited to teachers’ accounts before Navratri. The directive, issued by education secretary and director of secondary education Dinesh Kumar, follows mounting concern over prolonged delays despite most staff having permanent account numbers and their details updated on the Human Resource Management System (HRMS) portal.
In a circular, the department acknowledged that head teachers of primary schools and principals of higher secondary schools had not been paid on time, causing hardship to newly appointed staff.
To address the issue, the Education Department has released Rs 325.82 crore for salaries and pensions of teachers, staff, and retired employees of traditional universities in Bihar for September. The director of higher education, Dr N.K. Agarwal, notified registrars of institutions including Patna University, Magadh University, BRABU, JNU and TMBU.
The department has also announced reforms in administrative processes. Leave applications for teachers, officers and staff will now be filed exclusively through the HRMS portal, with officials instructed to fully implement the online system.
