Patna: The monsoon has once again turned active in Bihar, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a yellow alert for rainfall across all 38 districts of the state on Friday.
According to the Meteorological Center, the state will witness light to moderate showers over the next few days, with the possibility of heavy rainfall and lightning in several districts.
Since Wednesday, many areas have already been receiving intermittent rain. On Thursday, Patna, Ara, Vaishali, Kishanganj, Supaul, Banka, Jehanabad, Nalanda, Bettiah, Samastipur, and Saharsa witnessed moderate to heavy rainfall. The downpour has disrupted preparations for Durga Puja pandals and Ravana Dahan events in parts of the state.
Bay of Bengal System to Intensify Rains
Meteorologists said a deep depression has formed over the west-central Bay of Bengal, around 160 kilometers off the Gopalpur coast in Odisha. The system, moving northward, is expected to make landfall between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh late Thursday night. Moist winds from the south are likely to reach Bihar, triggering widespread rainfall.
In addition, an upper air cyclonic circulation at 1.5 to 3.1 kilometers above central Uttar Pradesh is further fueling the weather activity. The combined impact of these systems is causing rain across most parts of Bihar.
Waterlogging and Disruption Reported
Patna received heavy rainfall on Thursday, bringing relief from humidity and making the weather pleasant. However, Darbhanga and some other districts reported severe waterlogging, causing difficulties for commuters and residents.
Forecast: More Rain, Drop in Temperature
The IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall in most districts in the coming days, with the possibility of heavy showers in isolated areas. Rainfall ranging between 80 mm and 100 mm is expected in certain pockets.
In Patna, the sky will remain cloudy with intermittent rain. The maximum temperature is likely to dip by 2–3 degrees Celsius due to the prevailing weather conditions.
