Patna: The Bihar State Pollution Control Board has announced an eight-day awareness campaign starting July 26 to curb the rising noise pollution in Patna. As part of the initiative, the city will be divided into four zones where e-rickshaws covered with awareness flexes will operate to educate people on the issue.
Officials said the campaign targets the increasing number of petrol and diesel vehicles, loudspeakers, DJs, construction plants, industrial activities, and other mechanical equipment contributing to noise pollution. Key messages displayed include prohibition of loudspeakers or public address systems without permission, a ban on their use between 10 pm and 6 am, and restrictions on noise-producing firecrackers, horns, and manufacturing plants within 100 metres of courts, hospitals, schools, residential areas, Secretariat, Legislature, Raj Bhavan, and Biological Park.
The board warned that violations of the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000 will attract monetary penalties under Section 15 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, and equipment such as DJs and sound systems may be confiscated.
