Patna: Bihar government has announced that ‘Panchayat Development Day’ will be observed on the last Sunday of every month across all Gram Panchayats, starting June 28, as part of an initiative to strengthen rural governance and improve public participation in local development.
The Cabinet Secretariat Department has issued instructions to all districts for the implementation of the programme.
State-Level Launch in Munger
The inaugural state-level event will be held in a selected Gram Panchayat in Munger district, where Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary will formally launch the initiative.
Officials said ministers in charge of districts, along with concerned administrative secretaries, have been directed to attend events in their respective districts to review on-ground implementation.
Objective of the Initiative
According to the government, the programme aims to encourage dialogue between Panchayat representatives, Gram Sabha members, women, youth, and other stakeholders.
The monthly observance will focus on reviewing development schemes at the Panchayat level and identifying local issues that require administrative attention.
Focus on Local Accountability
Authorities said the initiative is designed to improve transparency in rural development schemes and strengthen accountability mechanisms at the grassroots level.
The government expects that regular interaction under the programme will help bridge gaps between planning and implementation in rural areas.
Implementation Across Districts
District administrations have been instructed to ensure participation from elected representatives and officials at the Panchayat level.
The government has stated that the structured monthly format will also allow systematic monitoring of welfare and infrastructure schemes across rural Bihar.
