Aurangabad/Patna: An Aurangabad-based businessman has alleged discrepancies in Bihar’s electronic traffic challan system after receiving a notice for a traffic violation in Patna while, he claims, his vehicle was parked outside his home.
Amitabh Singh, vice-president of the Surya Mandir Dev Nyas Samiti and a businessman from Aurangabad district, said he received a message on May 16 informing him that an e-challan had been issued against his vehicle, registration number BR26W7700, in Patna.
According to the message, challan number BR14574260516185212 had been generated and payment was to be made online.
Singh said he was surprised by the notice as neither he nor the vehicle had travelled outside Aurangabad on the day the challan was issued.
Questions raised over e-challan verification
Speaking about the incident, Singh questioned the functioning of the transport department and alleged that such actions were causing inconvenience to the public.
In a social media post, he criticised the system and alleged that challans were being issued without proper verification. Screenshots of the message and challan details were also shared online.
The matter has since drawn attention on social media, with several users claiming they had faced similar issues involving allegedly incorrect e-challans.
Experts cite possible technical errors
Transport and traffic experts said such cases could arise due to incorrect number plate recognition, technical faults in automated systems or errors during data entry.
They noted that while automated traffic enforcement systems are designed to improve compliance, inaccurate challans can create inconvenience and financial stress for vehicle owners.
According to local reports, similar complaints have previously been raised by vehicle owners in Aurangabad district, with some alleging that their vehicles were shown in other districts despite being elsewhere at the time.
Residents and vehicle owners have called for stricter verification measures before challans are issued.
