Patna: In a move aimed at improving fuel accessibility across urban areas, the Bihar government has amended its land regulations to make it easier to set up petrol pumps and CNG stations. The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday.
Under the revised norms, fuel stations can now be established on plots measuring as little as 20 metres by 20 metres. This marks a significant relaxation from the earlier requirement of 30 metres by 20 metres.
The amendment is part of the Bihar Building Bye-laws, 2014 (Amendment 2025), and is expected to facilitate the setting up of more fuel stations within city limits, where acquiring larger plots of land has long posed a challenge.
Officials said the change comes in response to the growing population and the rising number of vehicles in Bihar’s urban areas. “The aim is to ensure that people do not have to travel far for fuel. With this change, more stations can be built closer to where people live and work, saving time and reducing congestion,” a government spokesperson said.
